UK commercials are a world of their own. Pegs, islands, aerators, stocked carp and F1s, fishery pellets, barbless rules, and a board that tells you what was caught yesterday. They are where most new anglers should start, and where a lot of very good anglers still spend their weekends.
The water is rarely 'natural', but it still has wind, depth, features and moods. The method feeder and pellet waggler were perfected here. Read the rules card before you bait up — keepnets, meat bans, and night fishing vary peg to peg.
Typical species
Carp, F1s, tench, bream, roach, perch. Some waters hold barbel in the lakes, or catfish. Check the list.
Tactics
Method feeder to an island. Pellet waggler when they're up. Pole or waggler for silvers. Margins late. Use the fishery's own pellet.
Etiquette
Stay in your peg. Don't cast across the next man's island. Keepnets only where allowed, and never with big carp in a heatwave if the rules frown on it. Take your rubbish.
Close season & rules
Most commercials have no statutory close season and fish all year. Always check the fishery rules — a few still shut for spawning. Meat and floating-bait bans are common in summer.
