Expanders or banded hard pellet on a pole rig, over a pot of micros. The default F1 and carp presentation on a huge number of UK commercials.

Pellet on the pole is how a lot of people actually catch F1s. Pump expanders so they sink slowly, or band a hard 4–6mm. Pot micros over a plumbed line. Depth is the adjustment: deck, a few inches off, or shallow when they come up.
Use the fishery's own pellet if they sell one. Mixing the wrong pellet on a picky water is a blank with extra steps.
Commercials, F1s, carp, year-round. The first pole line to try on a pellet lake.
A maggot-only canal in winter. A fishery that bans pellet. Hard pellet on a day they want expanders, and you refuse to change.

A pot of micros, little and often, exactly over the float. Hard 6s thrown if they want a column.

Top of the shelf, 11m, a short line. Come up if they swirl.
Expander on the drop or on the deck; banded hard pellet if they want a click.
Plumb, pot, expander at dead depth. If tiny fish shred it, a harder pellet or a bigger expander.
Most commercial days. Cold: smaller pellet, deck. Warm: they may come up.
Pump expanders so they just sink. Pot micros, lower the rig. A dip — lift. Change depth before you change bait, then bait before you change peg. If they swirl, a shallow kit.
Starting routine
0–10 min
Get a bait in the water on the line you intend to fish. Do not search the whole venue in ten minutes.
10–30 min
A pot of micros, little and often, exactly over the float. Hard 6s thrown if they want a column.
30–60 min
If nothing, change one thing — depth, bait or spot — not three. Read the troubleshooting on this page.
A dip, a hold, elastic out. F1s often want a beat.
A lift of the pole. Too fast and you bounce F1s.
Net anything with size or spines. Wet hands, unhook, return. A photograph is optional; the fish in the water is not.
The wrong pellet. Unpumped expanders that float. Feeding at 11, fishing at 13.
Expander coming off: not pumped, or too soft. Tiny fish: harder pellet. Nothing: not plumbed, or they want maggot.
