Rig
A dotted pole float, bulk and droppers, a short hooklength, elastic in the top kit. Accuracy is the whole point.
Wind the rig so the float dots down with a bulk and one or two droppers. Elastic matches the fish. Plumbing is not optional. A puller kit for anything that can break light elastic.
You can buy ready-tied rigs to learn. Then wind your own so the depth marks match your kits.

Expanders or banded hard pellet on a pole rig, over a pot of micros. The default F1 and carp presentation on a huge number of UK commercials.

Fishing the far shelf
The canal far-bank line: a plumbed bait against the vegetation, often punch or maggot, where stamp roach and bonus fish sit. Boats move them; then they settle again.

A lump of soft paste around the hook, usually mixed from the fishery's own pellet, fished on the deck. F1s and carp on commercials, especially in the edge and on a short pole line.
