Method feeder rig

Inline or elasticated frame, a four-inch hooklength, hair-rigged bait. Short, strong, and meant to be taken with the mouthful of mix.

Build a session

There isn't much to a method rig, and that's the virtue. The lead or frame runs inline (or is elasticated where allowed), the hooklength is about four inches of reasonably strong fluoro or copoly, and the bait sits in or on the mix.

A bait band or a hair with a quick-stop covers pellets, wafers and corn. Barbless on commercials. Test that the hooklength isn't twisted and that the bait sits flush.

Components

Method frame 20–40g, mould, 0.16–0.19mm hooklength ~4 inches, size 12–16 barbless, hair or bait band, wafer / banded pellet / corn, mainline 6–8lb mono.

How to tie it

Hair or band to the hook. Four-inch hooklength to a quick-change bead or the method connector. Frame on an inline stem. Load with the mould. Clip up the distance.

Common mistakes

A two-foot hooklength. Forgetting the hair and nailing a pellet on the shank. Elasticated systems where the fishery wants inline. A hook that's too big for an 8mm bait.
